My Acer Iconia A500 Tablet Works Simply with Any USB PC Full Sized Keyboard

Another User Friendly Acer Iconia A500 Tablet feature that beats my iPad while working on the go.

In the not too distant past folks, not being an android mobile phone user, myself and my partner Michael decided to purchase an Acer A 500 android tablet – admittedly because it was on special offer then on Amazon. We have both been pleasantly surprised since, even though other android tablets to generalise have got better reviews and the like. Before we purchased, the feature that caught my attention was the ability to use a USB port on the tablet, enabling me to carry graphics and video on a USB stick for study and use on the tablet.

When I did my little bit of research back then, I had noticed some comments about the ability of the Acer tablet to use a USB full-size keyboard, but I must confess this feature I completely forgot about, until some weeks ago, I was in a friends house, a situation arose  such that I had a lengthy set of correspondence to type and I had a brainwave – I plugged my friends cheap USB full-size keyboard into the android and hey presto I was able to type away. It was only afterwards that it dawned on me what a very useful feature this is in practice – in reality.

Yes the Acer is 500 will also work with a Bluetooth wireless keyboard, but let’s face it, that means having to carry another bit of gear around with you on the move. Once you know there is likely to be a full-size USB keyboard at your destination be it at a friends house, a  customers office or where ever, then let’s face it, you’re typing will be done a lot quicker– as opposed to  tapping slowly around an on-screen tablet keyboard. FACT.

This handy userability feature means you can type as fast as you would on your desk-top machine. For tablet-based productivity working on the go, this is a rewarding experience.

full size usb keyboard

When I used my iPad, for any serious typing I have had to carry around a separate apple wireless keyboard- not by any means full sized……it takes getting used to ….BUT NOW  if I plan to do any real writing wherever I’m going, my Acer Iconia A500 has emerged as my must have tablet for my business work travel. Because  I know I can grab any old keyboard I find along the way and make it work.

Thanks for this review Rosemary:) I’m embarrassed to say I’m one of the few people who still hasn’t got an iPad (although I do have an iPhone).

I have to take my laptop out and about and although it’s huge and heavy I do find it easier working on a full size keyboard so I can see how the Acer Iconia A500 can be easier when working on the go:)

      Lilack,

Thanks for your feed back, the important thing is to find what works for you to be productive. I really find the Android and iPad is great and easy to read. I find the screen on the iPhone not the easiest to read . I got a regular handbag with a pocket for the iPad or Android. Which is great for working on the go. Take care Rosemary

That was great. I have never seen any tablet that are compatible with any computer keyboard. in addition, you can also save the screen of your tablet from scratches. Thanks for sharing this informational ideas.
